A year and a half ago, while on a trip to Iceland with my family for my birthday, I fell deeply in love with shooting film. It was as though the deepest parts of my creativity unlocked. From that trip on, one of my greatest forms of expression has been through shooting in this medium.

This year, I had planned to celebrate my birthday by relaunching this website and by offering The Birthday Print Collection — prints of some of my favorite photos from my trip to Iceland, and of all time. My birthday is March 16th, and if you can even remember what life 6 months ago was like, you’ll remember just a few days before my birthday is when COVID-19 really hit and several states went into lockdown. It didn’t feel right to launch The Birthday Collection then, and I let my birthday pass silently while we all tried to figure out which way was up. It’s now been 6 months since my birthday. In that time I moved, became a caretaker for my niece, found out my grandma had terminal cancer, became a caretaker for her, and a month ago, sat with her as she took her final breathe. The last 6 months have been A LOT — for all of us I know — and I put a lot of my life and dreams on hold to care for my family. But for my half birthday, the best gift I can think to give myself is to let myself open this shop, which has been a dream of mine for a very long time.
